Hi! I have Firefox and Internet Explorer. I m pretty good with computers and have tried what I know to do but still no effect. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is my predicament: I ll be browsing a page and want to open a link. I can do that just dandy. But whenever I try to open the same link again- instead of opening another window- my browser refreshes the window of the page already open. How can I get it to open multiple windows (not tabs) of the same program? I m not sure if it helps- but the problem I encountered was with a javascript program.
Thanks for the quick responses. I have tried all of that though. And when i use Ctrl+N- the link doesn t open up but rather the page with the link on it. And in FF- right-clicking only has the options: Bookmark this link- Copy this link- and Properties.
Does anybody have anymore ideas. I have already tried all of this. Could it be one of the options or settings for my browser?

I am facing an problem while preparing my site. I have used the Javascript- Flash File along with HTML. When the page opens than the information bar shows at the top about the Active X Control. Only after enabling that Active X or by changing the Active X settings from the security option (which is required to change on each user pc which is not possible) to see the animations and all the other functions. But usually the site which already launched does not show this kind of problem.

Like the site www.santabanta.com which uses the Flash document along with huge Javascript and html coding but there is no sign of such a problem.

Please reply. I will definately choose you answer as the best one.

I wrote some scripts for scrolling layer content. It s running ok in IE and Firefox. However- in IE- the following case it s run incorrectly:
- Run the page
- Click on number 9
- Refresh (press F5)
- It will not return to number 1- but number 7 instead.

Similiar to other numbers- after refresh it alway return to the first number in current line.

I have 3 PCs - each set-up differently- and years appart. Anyway - I ve noticed that over the months- the Yahoo site (UK & US) have layout/data issues on all 3 machines when visited using Internet Explorer- versions 6 and 7.

The problem is- the spaces where Market Place- Yahoo travel- and Popular Searches should be- appear completely blank. All I get is Borders where they should appear. Using FireFox- all is as should be.

Now- I might be ahead of some of you; I m not a great fan of IE- and I m not a cyber-pimp for FF- but this strange effect has led me to ask this question.

I have Java & JavaScript enabled for IE & FF- so it isn t a Java issue. Also- I ve no Anti-Advert software or add-ons running.

Has anyone else noticed this- and if so- have you an answer for why this has happened to IE with Yahoo recently?

I have a good working knowledge of both HTML and CSS but I m now working on a website that requires some Javascript.

Specifically what I need to do is have a button that makes a pop-up window appear which has a form to fill out. In this case- to send an email.
So it would have the company logo at the top- with several text inputs like "Name" and "Address" and such like- and a submit button to send all the info to an email address.

In the preview module- it endlessly reads "loading-" and when I hover the cursor over it- it says "javascript void." It never loads correctly. I d like to use the new Yahoo- but what s the point if I can t get the email preview? Oh please help.

I have a problem with video sharing sites like crunchyroll-youtube and so on. It always comes out as "you have your javascript turned off or you need the latest flash player" I DON T!! i already downloaded it- and my javascript is on. Is it my computer or is it just the site?

If you click on a shoe in endless.com- you can see the top image scroller showing other products. Is there a free simple javascript out there doing similar thing. Let say I have 10 images. I want to show only 4 at a time. There will be << and >> button. I click on either one and the images will move. If I click on each image- it will show in a bigger DIV tag out side.

I have a drop down menu coded in HTML and CSS that works in all major browsers including IE6. I have main categories and under them i have sub categories. For example one main category is "Popular search engines" and one sub category is "Yahoo". Whenever someone hovers over a main category a background image "appears" ( a:hover produces a background image behind text) however when they hover over a subcategory the background image behind the main catergory dissappears because it is no longer hovered. I tried everything i could with HTML and CSS to try and fix this problem but i can t get a grasp on it. Basically i need to know if there is a way to "fake" a mouseover using javascript so the main categories background appears while the subcategories are hovered. I know a bit of HTML- CSS- and JavaScript. However- I am trying to code a page that will be cross-platform and cross-browser friendly (i.e. the content will show up identically- which is a huge problem with Internet Explorer s non-compliance).

Additionally- my school has JavaScript blocked- so any web resources that use JavaScript are out of the question. =(

I need something that is powerful and can allow me to absolutely position as many elements as I want- define depth levels- allow me to specify areas (i.e. DIV tags) with dynamically-defined heights and widths- etc.

Can anyone give me suggestions on (a) the language- (b) what resources I would need to work with it (i.e. compilers- programs- etc.)

NOTE: I loathe "wizards." Dreamweaver = the devil.
Does PHP require something like Apache? And if so- can one "bounce" one s scrips off one s own computer- or does it require a dedicated computer?

Youtube worked perfectly with internet explorer.

I tried to download the plug in "Adobe Flash Player"
It says Adobe Flash Player Not available- and it has a little tab that says manual install.

Even like that it wont install.

I hate to say that I am not good at computers. I get message telling that " your current security setting dont allow to dowload this file" How to sort out this problem? Another question- before I didnt have problem signing in yahoo but now it requires me to enable javascript. What should I do?

Having trouble getting videos to play because of active x controls. Have installed and un-installed flash player with no positive results. I mean WTF youtube videos only work for FireFox on my computer? If I try to go to youtube on IE- I get the messege "Get the lasest flash...enable javascript blah blah blah..." I HAVE THEM BOTH. What the hell is wrong with IE? And NOTHING that requires Java or flash works on IE. Only FF...Help?

Is there a way to replace a submit button with javascript without having to uniquely name each function- or name my forms? I m just looking for a link replacement for the submit button. So- a submit button just sits at the end of the form and submits it s data- can I just replace it with a link- no extra stuff except one function at the top of the screen?

Also- the form s method is POST- not GET. Also- the action is $PHP_SELF; though- if you give me an ideal answer- the JavaScript won t even worry about the action.

I am trying to watch this youtube video but it says "Hello- you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe s Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player". I download the new javascript and it still doesnt work. I heard it has something to do with activex or something.Also when I go on other login usernames on my dell laptop it works fine- but on mine- it doesnt. Please Help!!!

I haven t done much with what I know though- because everything that I can think to do requires either PHP or Flash or both. been getting scam email from "monster.com"- when tried to forward it with header to siteabuse@monster.com to report the scam- the email was only sent back to the scammer and nobody else. was told that there may be HTML-Javascript coding in the email to block any such forwarding except back to the scammer. tried to copy the email text and compose as a new message- and tried to copy the email to a txt file and sent as attachment- all with same results. when copied the email to a wordpad rtf file and sent as attachment- this seems to worked (the email and attachment got to where is should go). Hello world- i m 14 years old and i m not that great with computers and i ll explain this with as much detail as possible. I go to youtube and click a video to watch it and it says- "Hello- you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe s Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player." now.. I highly- highly doubt I have javascript turned off.

I think it s the flash player. So I click on the link to go to the flash player when I do- I press- "Agree and install now" I click that then I need to install "Active x control" well I did that so after that the windows come up to "install" and "windows needs your permission" blah blah so I agree to that junk then nothing happens =[

I did notice where it said there should be some junk up above it- there is just a big white box with a little icon that looks like a red square- green circle- and a blue triangle. If this is an easy fix.. I hope I didn t make myself look like an idiot =P

I want curse words to be masked out with ***. For example...

Do I need to make a cookie or something????? Why can t I simply reassign the value of the textarea and keep the text there upon submission.

My coworker and I are having some (read: major) trouble trying to make an image on a web page automatically adjust its size to fit the size of the viewers window.

(FYI: We re both pretty clueless when it comes to web design)

We ve got it so it works fine in Firefox- Safari and IE7- but we can t seem to get it to work in IE6. The funny thing is that if you adjust the size of the window manually- it will work perfectly- it just doesn t do it when you first open the page.

There s probably something wrong with the javascript we re attempting to run. (Keep in mind we re completely untrained and have (mostly) no idea what we re doing.

I realise that IE6 is the digital incarnation of the devil and doesn t like CSS etc- but is there possibly a workaround or IE hack that anyone can think of?

I m creating a character count at the bottom of a text area (much like the one on Yahoo Answers)- and I want to prevent a user from typing any more into the textarea once he/she has used all of his/her allotted characters. How do I do this?

Why is there a return false?
why is there a "#"?
The function with the name rollDice..We can name it another name right- no need rollDice also can?
Why it is rollDice() << the brackets are important?

just here within the past 3 days youtube does not seem to want to work for me. i will wait for a video to load and then hit play and it will play for like 3 seconds and then it sticks and i can drag it forward but it will still only play for like a second and then it will get stuck again- and there is absolutely no audio being produced what-so-ever. any ideas? i have the most up to date macromedia flash player- and java and javascript are both enabled.

I have an input box and a button that runs a function taking the input as a parameter. The button click works fine. The problem is it needs to respond to the enter key. I have it responding to the enter key- but in both ff and ie it loads the function produces the correct output- but then it looks like the page refreshes and the output is gone. The alert box pops up when the cursor is in the box that detects the keyPress event and enter is pressed.

I have been getting this error in all the YouTube videos I have loaded today. This happened after installing a Flash security update that appeared after turning on my computer.

I use Internet Explorer and have a Windows XP.

I have updated my Flash Player four times- checked to see if JavaScript was on- updated my Java- turned off hardware acceleration in flash settings (turned it back on after that plan failed)- put YouTube in Trusted Sites (turned it back on after that plan failed)- and restarted twice. (Haven t restarted after Java update.)

I am not technologically retarded- but I am not a techno-master either. Please give CLEAR- DETAILED instructions with your answers.
So far- I think reinstalling Flash is the best opition since an update of Flash may have caused this in the first place.

Links also aren t working. Say- if I want to delete or send an email- the "send" and "delete" buttons I click do nothing. Also in photobucket I can t "unpload" photos. On youtube pages the videos wont even show up- and on sites like LiveJournal the dropdown menus do not show up. My JavaScript and FlashPlugin are up to date. I have Windows Vista if that s important- IE came on it but there s no option to uninstall it in the control panel- so reinstalling is not an option for me. Please help!

I want to create a table or form in dreamweaver where people enter 2 different pieces of information (both being numbers) lets call them A and B then I want 8 different calculations that pertain to A and B. There are 2 different pieces of information C is the # that is calculated in the parenthesis and D is the final # in the equation which is a dollar amount.

This occurs even if code is written using BigDecimal (s)

the result of 0.29*10*10 is 29.0- but 0.29*(10*10) is 28.99...

The same behavior can be seen in javascript- so it is not just a java thing

any ideas- what the heck? but 0.29f*100 works fine

I designed a website and I have a javascript image slideshow of 10 pictures fading in and fading out every 3 secs. I have this effect on every webpage at the same place- size & position. If i click to the next webpage then my javascript slideshow reloads and starts again from image No.1..how can i get this slideshow to be efficently moving regardless the change of webpage. I just need the body text and other items within the webpages to change while the image slides to keep running efficently.

i m building a site w/ dreamweaver 8 (windows xp) and i need to put an email form on some of my pages. i got the code for the email form from yahoo (i m hosting my site at geocities for now). there s a javascript banner rotation above the email form (not directly above- but toward the top of the page)- then below the banner i have a "tell a friend" link (also javascript)- and then a couple boxes below the tell a friend link is the email form. here s what happens- either the banner script or the tell a friend script is messing w/ the text (font/color) on the email form (the form works- it s just screwing up the text appearance- not all- just a couple of lines). i m not sure whether it s the banner script or the tell a friend script- i would have to try both separately to weed out the culprit- i suppose. however- i doubt which one matter just yet. the problem is to get either script to stop distorting the text in the email form! and yes- i made sure script tags are closed. help! thanks.

I like using internet explorer and it still won t work. I have the mozilla but really don t like it. I created a website as a part of a week-long game we played in one of my classes. Someone in my class told me later that week that they had hacked my website- but felt bad about it and changed it back. They wouldn t tell me how they did it- but they said that they used javascript. I have been reasearching online- and I think that they used either XSS (cross-site scripting) or script insertion (probably the later of the two)- but I don t understand it. I get the general concept of code insertion- but I don t understand how they get the URL to direct the user to the modified html instead of the regular html. (for reference purposes- I used google page creator) So my question is- how did they hack it- and how do I counter it? I thought that since I used a google product- my site would be secure (as opposed to using my home computer).
In response to the comment about me not being sure about something happening- I am sure. Some of the text on the webpage was changed- and other people in my class confirmed seeing the change before it was removed.

How do I toggle the status bar on a popup window with the keyboard. I want to see if there are javascript errors on a popup window and I don t want to close it.

In IE you can hit ctrl-alt s or ctrl-alt d to toggle the status bar off and on.

I am asking this because I visit YouTube alot and suddenly it is prompting me to update Flash (which I already did) or to activate JavaScript. I ve already turned on everything under scripting- and tried different Browsers.

I want to go on YouTube to watch videos and it says i have Javascript off or sont have my Flash updated. I go to my View Settings and even back home settings to turn both Flash ans Javascript on and it still wont work. No videos from any site work- youtube- break.com- besttube.com- nothing works. I want to learn a programing language- but I m not sure what to learn first. I have a basic understanding of html but that s about it. My goal is to eventually be able to write my own programs or to be able to create/ edit an operating system or some thing along those lines. I went on the flash player website and according to what the website tells me- flash player was installed but i still couldn t watch anything. So i went to tools-internet options- security- custom level; so that i could turn on javascript- but it isn t even listed there- so i m assuming my computer doesn t even have it. But now- every time i go on the java website to download- a gold bar is supposed to come up but it doesn t. I m not a computer expert so i don t really know have to turn off any pop-up blockers if there are any. Is there anything i could do to download javascript other than the need to click on the gold bar? If this helps- when i click download for java it says this: We encountered an issue while trying to automatically install Java software onto your machine.

My friend and I were wondering how to enable Javascript on his computer. YouTube will not work without it apparently.

Ever since the update for Yahoo! Mail- I have not been able to fully access my email. First- I could at least see my mail- but there would be no page style. It would be a bunch of typed words but not with the correct format and background.

I made a website and it is not rendering the same output in ie and firefox. I came to know that the solution is we can write 2 different css and load it after detecting which browser. though it is taking more development time than usual i managed to do so as i want to appear my site similar in all the browsers atleast IE and Mozilla. no matter what i do- my stupid computer won t let me download the "New" adobe flash player. And i m going effing insane. My java script is on. I have tried to download everything physically possible. I have seen various tutorials aroudn but none are exactly what I need - very basically I need an <asp:textbox> to fire a vb.net subroutine/function when the text changes - all the other tutorials I have run accross allow you to fire a javascript function by adding onchange attribute to the textbox but that s not what I need.

It s quite annoying when you want to leave your cursor at one section of the code (say- in a Javascript or PHP area) and you want to click the live reaction in LiveView/Design View and Dreamweaver auto-stupidly moves the code cursor to the area you clicked on in Design View. I d like to make a javascript chat app- but I keep running into the problem of how do I SEND a message to a user from the server without having him check with me all the time.

I have tried to make the browser check back with the server every 1.5 seconds- but the cost of CPU and RAM is prohibitive.

How can I push a message through? Is there a channel or something that I can use?
I know gmail manages to have communication through AJAX without having to check every second...

My only problem is- how much can I ask for?

When I m at my myspace "home"- and when I try to do the simple things like update my "friend status" or browse my friends list (either by clicking a page number in my list- or "next")- absolutely nothing happens. I assume that it has to do with Javascript because when I mouse over one of those particular links- it has "javascript:___(___)" on it. I tried updating to the latest JRE- downloading the latest Adobe Flash player- tinkering with the settings- and even cleaning out cache and cookies- yet NOTHING worked...

Just so you know- I m not adding javascript in my myspace profile (I know myspace doesn t allow that). I have to create an intranet for work. I need to be able to retain the top and left navigation menus (dhtml with javascript if this helps) whilst returning search results or other links to the main area. I have tried using the old Frames method but I need to be able to scroll down the page as the left hand menu goes down further than the majority of our users screen resolutions can handle. If I turn on scrolling for the left hand frame it looks very bad.
If it wasn t for the need to return search results to the page and keep the look and feel of the page the same I would use templates.
Our current intranet uses pretty much all asp and is able to do it but it looks really complicated. Lastly we are a not-for-profit organisation so it can t cost anything or close to it.
Has anyone got any suggestions?

i have two different emails and i can check one- but not the other. when i try to check the second one- a popup shows up that says

I m developing a site- and amajor part of the working with that site is uploading files to the site servers.
I have some third party softwares that deals with this uploading things just fine.
BUT in the browser- when the user clicks on the "Browse" button near the file field- he/she gets a browsing window from the operating system- but with filter "All Files (*.*)" and the combo box shows two more options "Pictures (*.jpg- *.gif)" & "HTML (*.htm- *.html).
How can control those filters? i.e. I want the user to upload only Access files (*.mdb)- and I block- by javascript- the optin to upload file that doesn t end with .mdb- but I want the browse window to show him only mdb files?

I am trying to code the form in such a way that if the user does not enter a value into the username field- they will recieve a JS prompt asking them to fill in the details. Why am I getting the error "Only basic authentication is supported"?

My upload reached 100% but- the files are not showing in "My Files". What happened?
This can occur when using an internet connection that is behind an internet proxy. It can also occur with some antivirus and firewall programs that have built in proxies or browser redirect services such as McAfee Redirector Service. The solution is to disable these services and try the upload again. To do this in Windows: Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services. Then highlight the "McAfee Redirector" service and right click. Exercise the stop option in the resulting menu and also disable the automatic startup of that service in that same menu. (No reboot is required.)

To reduce loading time- I am trying to move most of the code out of these brackets and into Javascript functions - the code will then be executed only when it needs to be executed- instead of always executing when the page is loaded.

Can Response.Write be safely replaced by document.write in all cases?

I m trying to find some way or some line(s) of code so when a user prints a secure web page (a recipt)- the url is not displayed or hidden on the bottom of the printed document. There are client-side ways of doing this- but that wont work since I m wanting to do this server-side without medifying the directory structure already in place. Currently am using a simple javascript window.print() function- though can use more advanced javascript or PHP. If anyone could help me with this- or point me in the right direction- it would be much appriciated.

I found this neat javascript code that has bar that changes color depending on the strength of the password. Can someone help me out and tell me how I can get it to display the words weak- moderate- and strong as the color changes from red to green. The typical problem at first: Javascript is turned off/flash player is not working. Checked javascript and it was turned on- but I decided to turn it off- exit firefox- restart firefox and turn it back on again- just in case. Didn t work.

i have an HTML form that links to a PHP script that processes it. This creates a search engine. Now i would like to protect the search engine with a password and a user name. I couldn t use another form (password type) that links to the form above can I? seems like i need JavaScript here?
actually i would like to use a link on my web site but when that link is pclicked- the user is asked for username/password- when the latter are ok- they can access the form leading to the php script that processes the search results.
hi David- i think i understand. so it seems that i d need to add the psswd/username fields to the search form then hardcode the pssd/username in the php that processes it. then link the website page to that form page. Let me see if i can do that :-)

Ok this all started about a week ago. At first- everytime I got on youtube it would load very fast. However- now all of a sudden it is taking forever to buffer. I have downloaded the accelerator and it does not really work at all. I have uninstalled adobe flash player and installed the newest one and that didnt help. I cleared my cache and made sure that javascript did not somehow get unchecked. It is not my connection because I have cable and my laptop that shares the connection with my desktop and my laptop has nooo problems whatsoever with youtube videos loading fast. Here s my problem:
-MySpace Mood & Status will not "Update". When I click "Update"- what is suppose to happen doesn t happen. It doesn t do anything at all- and on when I click on "View All" under the "Friend Status" section and visit that page- it does the same their- not what it s suppose to do- and it doesn t do anything at all either. I ve managed to setup a local MySQL database (after LOTS of work) and now I want to put it online. My question: Where would my MySQL database be stored- on my computer or on an external server?

For example- I host my sites with NAThosting - where I use a FTP program to upload files. Those files are then stored on their servers somewhere. My locals files have no influence on the pages until they re uploaded and then stored where ever. When I want to use a database- will that be stored on their computers/servers much like my HTML pages or will the server need to be permanently running on my home CPU?

Hi. Basically I have a text box and and button. I would put a text on the text box and when I press the button- I want it to search for that word in my xml file. It would then be displayed in the same page.

The width of the entire page is 64.8em. The images are for the banner- which is 64.8em. Not sure if I need to use hacks for each browswer (IE7 needs to be width=829px- IE6 probably needs to be around 1037px) It seems very weird that the images are different widths in different browsers with the click and reload feature- and noticably more different in IE6.

Iâ™m having this strange problem with my Firefox browser (I think).

On my home page (my.yahoo.com)- there is a button to configure the appearance of the home page- which launches a javascript applet- or so it appears when you hover over the button.

When I push the button with my laptop- it launches the applet no problem. But when I try this with my home PC or my wifeâ™s laptop- neither one will work. Iâ™ve tried everything that I can think of- but nothing seems to work.

All three have the same browser versions- I went through the settings for Firefox with a fine toothed comb and all settings are the same.

IE seems to work fine for all three.

Any suggestions?
After exchanging e-mails with Yahoo support- they solved the problem by having me clear my cache and cookies from Firefox. After I reloaded the page- the problem went away

That s the message I keep getting everytime I try to watch a video. Did Youtube crash or what? I have both the latest flash player and Javascript enabled.

I would like to know how I can attribute multiple js functions to a link and more importantly how to do it in such a way that they get executed one after the other.
guys- I just found out you gotta add an onComplete event... But I still have to figure out how to make it work. LOL
Putting the functions one after the other just like that just causes them to be exectuded at the same time and in addition to that... The visual effect is not smooth. Definitely not the way to go.

How can I redirect a domain name (like mywebsite.com) to an extern web hosting (like freehost.com/mywebsite)? I would like that visitors see the "mywebsite.com" instead of "freehost.com/mywebsite" in their web browser. How can I do? JavaScript? DNS configuration?

Hey Everyone- I m looking for a tutorial or something that would allow me to have a fade-out transition between pages (say from my index.html to another page- so it d be triggered by a link). you guys can check out Gucci.com for a great example- to my opinion.

The one thing is I already use MooTools on my site- so it s gotta be compatible. Maybe you guys know of a MooTools way of doing it?

I just tried FAJAX... It s really cool and so much shorter than javascript but it is also not very smooth with my pages. Some corners flickers for no apparent reasons...
I think javascript- despite the potential mile-long script- might be a better option regarding quality.

nothing is working.

I want to create an opt-in form like many I ve seen on the web where default text is found in the text field (like "your name" or "your email"). I ve read a tiny bit about jTextField but I need a tutorial. I am comfortable with XHTML and CSS but still fairly new to javascript. I think jTextField is the way to go- but I m still not sure. I am unable to load mail javascript files in
Yahoo Beta but the computer will allow me to do it in Yahoo Classic. Had been able to use Yahoo Beta for a long time and then deleted a virus from computer and found this problem. Have reloaded Java multiple times
to no avail. Problem persists with or without anit-virus software. The following is what I keep getting:

Name: Type Error
Message: Object expected

Description: Object expected

Then i get another window that tells me
"unable to load mail javascript files"

Hello I am 16 and I have been thinking for awhile to start my own web develoment company. But I don t know where to start. I am in the 10th grade going to 11th and I have been doing HTML/CSS/Graphic Design since 5th grade so about 5-6 years so I know how to design.

I have also been creating Dynamic pages using Javascript- Ajax- and PHP/MySQL for about 4 years now. So I know how to code and script. I want to start my own comany but I need to know if there are taxes and those types of things.
